What can I do to prevent my baby from turning his head sideways?

If your baby is tipping their head to one side, don't worry. Torticollis can be corrected with a few simple techniques. The symptoms of infant torticollis (tor-ti-col-lis) include tightened muscles on one side of the neck that cause the baby's head to tilt or rotate. Infant torticollis is common—some studies suggest that it affects 3 in 100 babies. Fortunately, it can be treated very easily in most cases. When your child sleeps, you should always place them on their back, not on their front or side, as SIDS is particularly likely to occur when your baby is placed on their front or side during sleep.
