This type of mixed-age play can be a wonderful experience for both older and younger children. Besides cultivating compassion and developing teaching and nurturing skills, older children have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the world as they learn how to explain its complexities to children of younger generations. As our research indicates, age-mixed play is generally less competitive, more nurturing and more creative than play of the same age group. It is not about winning and losing when playing with kids of different ages - if the older one wants to win, the older child should be able to win - but rather it is about having fun and learning new things.
