According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), both cribs and bassinets are acceptably safe options for newborns. As part of their recommendations for crib safety and prevention of SIDS, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents use a crib as a sleeping surface for newborns. These recommendations are based on studies and research that indicates that the crib is one of the safest sleep surfaces for infants. Most baby's transition into the crib between 3 months to 6 months. If your baby is still sleeping peacefully in the bassinet, it might not be time to rush into transitioning the baby to a crib.
