If your baby shares a room with you in the early months, you may find that a baby monitor isn't necessary, at least for the time being. When your baby's crib is right next to yours, you can be confident that you'll hear every little sound and cry they make. However, if you have a two-story house and anticipate your baby taking naps upstairs, a monitor will certainly be useful.
