Why do babies cry?

No infants don't cry without reason. But we can't understand why they cry. Before the birth foetus is present in the uterus in close contact with the mother, and they feel protected from the external environment. But after birth, its like a sudden disconnect from the familiar environment which was comfortable to the foetus by all means. Infants cry because they want to be comforted.
