A mother shouldn't leave her baby for an extended amount of time until about the age of 36 months, when he has developed some concept of time.  After constantly hearing a heartbeat and being 'held', being put down for long periods of time can be quite scary and lonely. Some infants will go down easily and seem content to be alone. However, in some situations they might have learned that no one will come if they fuss.

Between 4-7 months of age, babies develop a sense of "object permanence." They're realizing that things and people exist even when they're out of sight. Babies learn that when they can't see mom or dad, that means they've gone away. Your baby won't realize that they're their own separate person until they're about 6 or 7 months old. While this is exciting for them, it also makes them anxious about being separated from you.

Maternal separation anxiety is a construct that describes a mother's experience of worry, sadness, or guilt during short-term separations from her child. Working mothers can find day-cares which are either close to their house or office. Described as a mom's experience of worry, sadness, and/or guilt during short-term separations from her child, this is often a common component of getting ready and perhaps mentally preparing to return to work after your parental leave is up.

Working mothers put aside quality time to spend with their family and can contribute to a more cheerful and positive family environment. By efficient and effective time management, a working mother is able to allocate time to her various roles as well as appreciate her own worth and importance.

It's often a matter of your personal circumstances and choice, whether you're looking for an excuse not to return to work or you really need that paycheck again. But experts recommend waiting until your baby is, at a minimum, 8 weeks old. You're not legally required to return to work after maternity or paternity leave. You can quit your job at any time, for any reason. Unless you are required by contract to stay in your job for a certain amount of time, you're an at-will employee and are legally entitled to quit.

As gut-wrenching as it can feel leaving your baby at daycare, know that you are not alone and your feelings of guilt and uncertainty are totally normal! Daycare guilt is a very real thing and one that most parents, not just working ones, experience. Day-cares, Creches and Babysitters. Day-cares, creches and babysitters are also one of the good options for working mothers.

As for babies, they become anxious and fearful when a parent leaves their sight. Separation anxiety is usually at its peak between 10 and 18 months. It typically ends by the time a child is 3 years old. But your baby will not feel abandoned by you when you return to work. Mostly because he or she is a baby who really has no idea what “work” is, but also because you're a good mom who loves her baby no matter what.

Fortunately, research suggests that children don't experience any harm when their moms work outside the home. The decision to stay at home or return to work is very personal, and there is no one “right” decision for everyone. Keep in mind that a happy mommy will mean a happier baby!
