A nursery rhyme is a traditional poem or song for children in Britain and many other countries, but usage of the term dates only from the late 18th/early 19th century. The term Mother Goose rhymes is interchangeable with nursery rhymes.  Wikipedia

You must have heard a few nursery rhymes from your parents as a child, and your parents, too, may have heard a few rhymes from their parents. As such, singing nursery rhymes to babies has been a part of the culture for many decades, and this practice has shown to be beneficial in many ways. In addition to giving you some of the best nursery rhymes for your baby, we will also discuss the different benefits of singing rhymes to your baby.

The benefits of nursery rhymes go far beyond simply entertaining children and babies. They give them an understanding of the importance of a story, they enhance social skills and they help revitalize language development, as well as lay the foundation for learning to read and write. Some children will already be able to carry a tune consistently with a steady rhythm during the time between the ages of five and six, while others will develop these skills as early as three to four.

A large number of rhymes also contain numbers, counting, and other maths words, such as size and weight, which children need to be able to understand. According to research, children's awareness of rhyme, as well as their ability to sing songs and rhymes, are positively correlated with their development in terms of language, early literacy, and reading skills.

Nursery rhymes usually have special features such as repetitions, double rhymes, and the possibility of using alternative lyrics. In phrases, they use melodic contours based on a series of arches, called anacrusis. There is an ascent balanced by a descent, which applies the concept of up and down. Repetition of words, ideas, and skills establish a solid foundation for early brain development.

Here are some famous and popular nursery rhymes that you can teach and sing with your kid!
