"A nursery doesn't need a theme such as cars, boats, and balloons,” Denese Butler, founder of The Perfect Vignette and mom of two, said. “It should feel cohesive, warm, and inviting. Most people regard the second trimester as the best time to start setting up the nursery. At this stage in your pregnancy, you should hopefully be over the morning sickness and fatigue but will still be able to move around with relative ease and comfort.
The best items to put on nursery walls are a gallery of framed artworks, tapestry, pretty garlands, hanging plants, wallpaper, stickers, and toys. You can also put floral wreaths, a mirror, stickers, and the baby's name. Many nurseries and kids' rooms are on the small side. They're at best a second or third bedroom, and often even smaller than that. In apartments, the "nursery" may be a large walk-in closet with the door removed, or one end of the parents' bedroom. Accordingly, careful space planning is always essential.
Nursery Layout Tips
- Plan ahead.
- Remember lighting.
- Create a sleeping zone.
- Create a changing zone.
- Think of storage.
- Consider allocating a small area for play.
- Include a reading corner.
Choose a right curtain length for safety. Choose short curtains instead of long drapes. Infants and toddlers can become entangled in long drapery fabric or use draperies to pull themselves up, resulting in drapery hardware being torn off the wall and causing injury.
Art should be at least half, or more like 3 /4 of the width of the furniture below it. The center of the art should sit near eye level. The bottom edge of the art should be 6-8 inches above the furniture. When hanging art over a crib, safety is of the utmost importance. You'll want to ensure that the piece is out of reach of your child, hung securely to the wall, and that if–despite your best efforts–it does fall, that it won't break, shatter or otherwise bring harm to your baby.
To balance the room, a glider sits opposite the crib and directly next to the door, so you can rest while monitoring your child. Place the dresser adjacent to the changing table for ease going back and forth between the two.
How to Decorate Nursery Walls Without Painting
- Beautify the nursery walls with decals.
- Install removable wallpaper on walls.
- Dress up the walls with white/neutral curtains.
- Decorate walls with nursery shelves.
- Hang a DIY fabric garland above the crib.
- Fill The space above the changing table with a mirror.
It's best for parents to avoid putting anything above, or within arm's reach of the crib, and that includes any furniture or wall hangings. Instead, parents could opt for a safer alternative such as wallpaper, an accent wall, or something painted right onto the wall, like a mural.
The best colors for babies to wake up to are shades that are softer, such as blues, greens and pinks, because a baby's eyes can perceive those colors at about the same time as they develop. If you like, you can launch an idea for your baby's room from a nursery rhyme or children's story.
